--- Artisan Chair Restoration
- Transform an old chair using creative flair! Join us in the
classroom to meet the instructor and register for this new weekly
workshop. Sue Anderson, owner of Homestead Seatweaving in Whitman, will
be available to answer questions, see samples, and discuss restoration
options. Bring your own chair in need of restoration and/or re-seating
with cane, rush or splint (a large assortment of unique chairs is
available at SHEC) and discover the hidden potential of each chair. A
list of restoration supplies and a seat weaving price list will be
handed out. Every chair is different, so find out what’s
involved and how many classes you might need to turn your ‘diamond in
the rough’ into a work of art! Classes start Monday, March
15th (7-9pm) and will meet on: 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3,
5/17, 5/24. We’ll explore design themes and options, and
learn valuable furniture restoration and seat weaving techniques
(materials may be purchased from the instructor. Per Class
Fee: Members $8 / Non-Members $10 9 Week

- This beginner level “Bread Basket” is woven using a variety
of rattan reeds and basic ‘plain-weave’ techniques.
Approx. size: 10” (L) x 8”(W) x 4” (H). Class fee includes
materials, tools are provided for use by the instructor.
Bring a gallon of hot water, a water bucket, and a towel. Please call

- Judy is the owner of The Country Crafter in
Hanson. This workshop is open to both beginners and
experienced knitters. Choose from simple projects, such as a
scarf, washcloth or cell phone case, or update your skills by learning
some new techniques. Purchase yarn from Soule or bring your own yarn,
along with needles. Sign up for one class or take the 3-part
course. Pre-register. Per Session Fee: Members $8

- Join us as we make “30 Minute” Mozzarella & Ricotta
cheese. Everyone will go home with a pound of cheese. All must bring
the following items: 8 qt. non-aluminum pot to heat milk, 2
qt. strainer, 2 qt. microwave-able bowl, and a slotted spoon.

frame or use as a wall hanging. This is a contemporary twist on a time

- Basket weavers of all levels will enjoy making this useful
“Tote Basket”. It is woven using a variety of natural rattan
reeds, basic ‘plain-weave’ techniques, and utilizes a length
of 100% cotton Shaker Tape for the handle, as well as decorative
Seagrass accents. Approx. size: 12”(L) x 6” (W) x 7” (H) (see picture
pg.6). Class fee includes materials, tools are provided for use by the

Workshop

- Sponsors: Soule Homestead & The Nature Conservancy
Location: SOULE HOMESTEAD EDUCATION CENTER, 46 Soule Street, Middleboro.
Middleborough Conservation Agent, Patricia Cassady, will help us learn
to identify a vernal pool, what creatures use the pool, how to document
them for certification and the importance of vernal pools in the
environment. There will be both a classroom and field
component where we will learn about topographic and assessor’s maps,
aerial photographs and field observation forms. This is
intended for adults and older children interested in certifying pools
in their area. Pre-registration is required as participation
is limited to 15. Rain or shine, bring waterproof boots. FREE.

Workshop with Mary Guidoboni --- 10:30am to 12:30pm
- Join us for this 3-part workshop as she
teaches you the art
of hand-braided rug making. You will enjoy seeing your old wool
blankets, skirts, coats, etc., made into a beautiful braided rug. All
participants should bring scissors, needle and thread. Bring your own
materials, if you have them, or make a small donation and use ours.

– “Nathan’s Square”. It is simple in design but the triple
braided handle trim on the solid oak frame adds just enough

Rick has been painting for 35 years and will guide us while we frame

blend and apply colors to capture the scene. Even if you’ve

- Some prior weaving experience would be helpful for making
this big “Wicker Bike Basket” that is made from natural rattan round
reeds. The base is woven using short split spokes of round
reed and a ‘twining’ technique. We’ll add long spokes and use
‘triple weave’ & ‘pairing’ techniques for the body of the
basket. Approx. size: 14” (L) x 9”(W) x 8” (H). Class fee includes
materials, tools are provided for use by the instructor.
